Skywatch Friday :

Boo !!
First impressions of the dark shadowy 'ghost' faded fast .. when I got out the camera to take his photo, his arm on the left of pic, was quickly disappearing ... I suppose that's what ghosts do .. they come and then 'poof' ... they go !!

Skywatch Friday :

Sitting on the patio of the Bistro and Tapas Bar at the Asara Wine Estate has this amazing view ..

... I have featured it on Skywatch before but it's just so beautiful, just had to do it again!!!

Last week, on our trip to Cape Town, hubby and I met up with family for tapas on the patio. We were not there long before the wind came up and clouds covered the Stellenbosch Mountains .... notice where the group of white birds moved to .. they were on the bank (above) and then moved to the sheltered bank (you can just see them to the left of the photo below).

Skywatch Friday :

"I'm leaving .... on a jet plane .... "

... "don't know when I'll be back again ... "

Actually, I do ... in two weeks!!! Hubby and I are going to Ireland for a holiday on Monday. We've had quite a traumatic time with all sorts of things going wrong, it will be nice to get away - although I feel as if I am 'abandoning ship' !!

Hoping to have good news today and Nicole (my DIL) will be discharged (I told her to take/steal/borrow an oxygen tank and sneak out!!).

... hoping Carl (my son/her husband) will begin to relax - he has had it tough .. with looking after little Erin, night shifts (he is a paramedic) and now their beautiful 'gentle giant' has died

... hoping the rest of my family don't get sick .. and that includes Elaine who now seems to have the tummy bug I had !!

... hoping that her graduation goes well. We will be there in thought and spirit to watch her receive her Honours with cum laude .... and still very very very upset that the University messed us around with not giving us a firm date of the graduation ... hence the bad timing !! :(

... hoping we don't get another swarm of bees which decided to make a hive in an air vent at the back of the house the other day

... hoping that Elaine and Bryan are safe whilst looking after our house (our friends were the victims of an armed robbery in their home and were thankfully not physically hurt)

... hoping that it rains so that my garden will be watered while we are away

... hoping that my hubby and I will relax over a beer/wine at the airport and drink a toast to our family and a wonderful holiday

One more thing .... below .... Erin, our two year old granddaughter ... a future Skywatcher !!!!!

Skywatch Friday : Angel's wings

My two year old grandson spent last weekend in hospital with suspected pneumonia ... a little worrying but when I saw these 'angel's wings' on Sunday morning, I knew he would be fine - and he was ... discharged from hospital a little while later.

Skywatch Friday : "I see the moon ..

... and the moon sees me" .... through the spring blossoms of the Flowering Plum (prunus x blireiana)...

Hello ... another little bird watching me while I take photos of the blue sky - I think he's a Chaffinch .. not my usual visitor .. even though they're common (according to the bird book!)

We had beautiful blue skies and then the wind blew ...

"Alas, a black cloud hid the sun, large raindrops fill the sky,
'Put up my hood,' cried Minny Car, 'pile in if you'd keep dry."
"The lightning flashed, the thunder rolled, as if that weren't enough,
A gale force wind began to blow, and blew the hood right off"

Forgive me, had to add that - I used to read this little book called Minny Car the Midget Motor by Sam Fair - to Elaine .. it was one of her favourites and I knew it by heart .. could tell the story even though I was falling asleep! It's now embedded in my memory box!!! (It's actually Carl's book given to him when he was about 2 so it's over 30 years old!) ...

...anyway ... lightening flashed, thunder rolled ... and then it was gone ... blue skies again!!

Skywatch Friday :

A cold front sweeping along the coastline of Kwa Zulu Natal (Ballito - north of Durban) ...

The weather on this coastline is usually magnificent at this time of year - that's why we always took our family holidays in June/July and always to the coast of Kwa Zulu Natal. This photo was taken a few years ago at Ballito. The temperature drops a bit but nothing like ours - up on the Highveld ...

... it's freezing here today!! Blue skies at the moment but freezing!!

Skywatch Friday : "I'm leaving .. on a jet plane ...."

From the runway at Cape Town airport - looking across to Stellenbosch and Helderberg Mountains, where we visited wine estates. The lower hills in the middle of picture is where the Zevenvacht Wine Estate is located. My Mum and I went there for a lovely lunch on one my previous visits ...

Lift off ... with the side of Table Mountain with it's 'table cloth', in the distance ...

Above the clouds with False Bay in the distance ...

... and below - mountains ...

.... and valleys ...

... before we fly towards rain clouds ...

... no more sky to watch .. just clouds and raindrops on the window ..
but there are more skies from around the world on the Skywatch link here

Skywatch Friday : Yesterday ...

... and for a few days, we have had unseasonal storms - mainly terrific lightening and thunder followed by scattered rains ...

... so out came the camera yesterday after a night of flashing and crashing ... 'rumble in the jungle' as I told Connor. He is petrified ... but calmed him a lot when he noticed how scared Jackie, our little Jack Russell was. I then put the emphasis on her which helped quite a bit. We kept her calm by talking to her and making sure she was comfy in her bed, otherwise she hides, shaking under the table

The sky began to clear in the morning but not before that big black cloud burst ....

... and then it cleared ...

... and cleared some more until there was not a cloud to be seen ..

... by lunch time, they gathered again ...

... and got 'very angry' ....

... lightening and thunder (was busy calming littlies and doggies! .. would love to capture a lightening strike!!!!) and 'rumbing in the jungle' before it cleared again ...

... to a beautiful clear, crisp and cold evening ....

... with the moon shining brightly ....

Skywatch Friday : Smiley face, frog or flying saucer?

Discussions between Bradley (my six year old grandson) and I about shapes of clouds are frequent ie dragons, spiders, monsters, ducks etc.

The other day we saw this formation from my kitchen door ... he said it was a smiley face .. I said a smiley frog ...
... but within minutes it changed .... to a flying saucer/wide-brimmed sun hat/single engined plane ....

... revved it's engines/caught by the wind/coming into land ...

.... and whizzed away/blew away in a gust of wind/coming closer to land ... or could it be an eagle (as my daughter, Elaine, sees) flying straight towards her ?!!
